A comprehensive early childhood
development program for children, ages three to five, from
economically disadvantaged families.

Provides enrollment
opportunities for the special needs of the preschool child. Ten
percent of the children enrolled may be over the Federal poverty
guidelines.

Provides a learning environment
designed to meet the individual differences and needs of
participating children.
-
Provides a comprehensive health
program which includes medical and dental examinations, an
immunization program, screening (hearing, vision, speech, and
development level), identification of health problems and
provision of needed services.

Helps to meet the nutritional
needs of the child through serving a light breakfast and hot
lunch. Develops positive attitudes toward food through
nutrition education.

Offers opportunities fostering
and facilitating parent involvement in the center and emphasizes
involving them in relevant decision making.
-
Provides a program of training
activities and experiences which support and enhance the
parental role as the principal influence in their
child’s education which includes emotional, social, physical and
cognitive development.

Serves as advocate for children
and families to provide necessary social services.

Contributes to later academic
achievement, especially if home and primary school environments
are supportive as the child progresses through school.

Provides Part Day/ Part Year
activities in classroom four hours per day Monday through
Thursday during the months of September through April.

Provides transportation from
the child’s home to program center via school bus.

Provides Full Day/ Full Year
program to children in Sparta, Coulterville,
Pinckneyville and DuQuoin whose parents are working full time or
attending classes. Hours: Monday though Friday 6:30 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m. year round.
