R.S.V.P. (Retired
& Senior Volunteer Program)
Serving Monroe, Perry and Randolph Counties
RSVP has a dual purpose of engaging
persons 55 and older in volunteer service to meet critical community
needs and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the
lives of the volunteers.
RSVP is a part of the Senior Service
Corps of the corporation for National and Community Service.
RSVP volunteers serve without
compensation, but if requested, may be reimbursed for out-of-pocket
expenses, such as transportation. All volunteers are covered with
accident and liability insurance while on assignment. Orientation,
in service training, individual supervision and support are
stressed. Recognition is given for volunteer service.
RSVP provides volunteers with an
opportunity to choose how to use their abilities and experiences to
improve the lives of others in their own communities.
RSVP is a service by volunteers to
assist their local communities to provide valuable service in
hospitals, nursing homes, historical sites, courthouses, health
departments, Adult Literacy Program, HOSPICE, nutrition sites and
other community service organizations.
RSVP volunteers impact the lives of
children by volunteering with the Illinois READS program in the
elementary schools, presenting the BABES program (an early
prevention program) to elementary students, volunteering in the
Speak To Me Program at Head Start, and volunteering with after
school programs.
RSVP offers services to other
seniors, such as blood pressure testing at nutrition sites and
senior citizen club meetings, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Program (VITA), Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counseling,
Rules of the Road Drivers Training Course and telephone reassurance
for the homebound elderly.

RSVP is a program whose only
requirement is that a person by 55 years of age or older and willing
to volunteer in his/her own community.
