Support Services
Supportive Services Program for Seniors serving Monroe and Randolph Counties
The program includes transportation by van to enable individuals, 60 years of age or over, to travel to and from community resources in order to receive services, reduce isolation, or otherwise encourage independent living. Contributions are encouraged.
This program also provides health screening and evaluation which provide assistance to obtain and maintain favorable conditions of health by helping to identify and understand health needs and to secure and utilize necessary medical treatment. Monthly blood pressure tests are given at the sites with no charge. Other periodic screening tests are also scheduled as well as flu immunizations.
Recreation is also included in the program which helps to foster the health and social well-being of individuals through social interaction and satisfying use of time at the senior centers. Activities include quilting, card games, arts and crafts, shuffleboard, and occasional group tours or outings.
Information and referral is provided at the centers and through outreach visits to inform individuals about services available in the community. Brief assessments facilitate appropriate referral and follow-up with such community resources.
A suggested donation is requested for each of our programs in the service area. The project income helps to supplement the budgets for each service year.
Available information in the area of consumer protective education, crime prevention, improvement of home security, paralegal service, tax assistance, weatherization of homes, and fuel payment assistance.
A family Caregiver Resource Center which provides access to information, training, support groups, counseling, resource materials, respite care, and supplemental services to family caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren.
